We are pleased to announce that the new ISO 14001:2026 Environmental Management Systems (EMS) standard has officially been published, replacing ISO 14001:2015. The revised standard introduces updates designed to help organisations strengthen environmental performance, address emerging sustainability challenges, and integrate environmental management more strategically into business operations.
Key Highlights of ISO 14001:2026
The updated standard places greater emphasis on:
• Climate change and broader environmental conditions
• Biodiversity, resource availability, and pollution prevention
• Enhanced risk and opportunity management
• Stronger lifecycle and supply chain considerations
• Improved change management and operational controls
• Greater leadership accountability and strategic integration of environmental objectives
Transition Period
Organisations currently certified to ISO 14001:2015 will have a three-year transition period to migrate to the new version. Existing certificates are expected to remain valid until approximately April 2029, subject to certification body requirements.
